1930s
Neither
side was clearly dominant over the other in this decade. The 1935 and 1937
matches marked the first matches after the Nazis coming to power in Germany.
In
the 1937 match, the german Manager was Sepp Herberger. He would remain in his
post until 1964.
The
outbreak of World War II, as well as Germany’s occupation of Holland, made
matches between the nations impossible.
It
would be nearly twenty years before the nations faced each other.

1950s
Due
to perhaps, hostilities from World War II, the two nations did not face each
other for nearly two decades. It was only in 1956, that the nations faced one
another once more.
By
now, the now (West) Germans were defending World Cup champions, while the Dutch
were starting to slowly enter Professionalism (1954).
While
the Dutch stars were Abe Lensta and Faas Wilkes, the Germans were led by Fritz
Walter and new young star Uwe Seeler. The heavy defeat suffered by the Dutch in
1959 (0-7) reflected this gap.
This
would be the heaviest defeat and the most lopsided affair between the nations.

1960s
The
natiosn would only meet once in a friendly during this decade. The West
Germans, one of the best teams in the World, defeated Holladn in a preparatory
match prior to the 1966 World Cup.
Uwe
Seeler was stilla round and a new star named Franz Beckenbauer. The Germans
were now managed by Helmut Schoen.
The
Ajax revolution was just around the corner and a few months later, a teenage
Johann Cruyff would make his debut for the National team (as well as getting
sent off).
